Philosophy:

The Chinese Medicine Database is an international grass roots movement of Chinese medicine practitioners, which is focused on the translation of the Classical Chinese medicine texts.

Currently, we have over 300 texts with a combined 34,000,000 characters in our possession. We would like to translate 100,000 characters per month. If we were able to meet this translation goal, we would be able to translate these 300 texts in 29 years.

Why pay a subscription for this service? You and I and 1,000 other people that care about the Classics, could bear this cost for the world, and we together meet our 100,000 characters a month goal. If 2,000 people subscribe then we will translate 200,000 characters per month. We are currently dedicated toward putting 100% of our resources towards the goal of translation.

Why should you care? Because the Classical texts of Chinese medicine are the foundation of TCM, as well as the foundation for all other types of Chinese medicine. We as a field, have over 3,000 years worth of medical knowledge that is being ignored. While modern Western studies of Chinese medicine waflle back and forth about how and why our medicine works, we have all the data that we will ever need in Chinese libraries to prove our medicine is a science.

You should also care, because the time is now! The number of scholars that can translate classical medical Chinese is decreasing, not increasing. When this number decreases past a certain point, the likelihood of us seeing this material translated in our lifetime also decreases.

Many medicines including Western medicine continually go back to the source while doing research, whether it be for herbal remedies or therapeutics. Researchers go to the source inorder to follow the train of thought that was in an ancient text, and then the researcher carries that thought forward. This is how discoveries are often made. It is seldom, that scientists and researchers have a flash of intuition without having their mind immersed around a subject. How can we move our medicine forward without the ability to wrap our mind around the Classics and pick up the thread that Li Zhi Shen, Sun Si Miao, Zhang Jie Bin and hundreds of others have left for us.

This movement is about roots, our roots, and the foundation of our medicine. It is about you and I, and our commitment to our history. The rest of the modern world will likely not see this information as valuable. But you and I know that Chinese medicine is not primitive, it is some of the most complex methodology in the world, so exceedingly complex that it can take at least one full life to just begin to understand the most refined concepts. If we know this, then wouldn't we want to translate the pearls of the masters that came before us?

In the end, the sum of this project will not be about one person, but will be about access to something that our medicine will never have otherwise, in the West.
